A bunch of emails and tears

On February 15th, 2017 at approximately 2:10pm, I opened my email, shut my laptop, and called my mom. All I saw was "Disney College Program: Congratulations!" I started crying, and of course, my mom talked some sense into me and told me to actually open the email. As my hands started shaking, I opened my laptop back up, and there it was:

I was a mess of emotions. I have waited for this very moment for weeks, and after days of thinking I would not be accepted, it happened, and now, I get to work at the most magical place on Earth! While on the phone, I followed the instructions and found out my role (custodial) and time (Fall Advantage). After I called my best friend, Sara, who had made me promise to call when I got accepted, I made no hesitations to accept my offer, pay my dues, and pick an arrival date! I will be moving to Orlando, Florida on May 22, and I could not be more excited!

My Acceptance Process

Applied: January 23

WBI: January 23

Phone Interview: January 25

Accepted: February 15

I got my Web-Based Interview the exact some day as I put my application. I was one of the lucky ones that did not get put directly into submission, and right after my WBI, I scheduled my phone interview. I wanted to have time to prepare for it, but I also wanted to get it over with so I did not have time to get too nervous about it. I spent the next day writing down possible questions and bullet points I wanted to make sure I said. The day of the interview, I got dressed in my comfiest clothes and a Disney sweatshirt (because what else would you wear for an interview with Disney?), and I waited for the phone to ring. I was scheduled at 1:15pm, but they could call 15 minutes before or after. My phone rang at 1:08pm, and I was greeted by one of the nicest people I have ever talked to. My interviewer and I talked for about 14 minutes. Below are a list of questions I got asked:

Do you know about the Disney Look, and are you able to abide by its regulations?

Why do you want to do the Disney College Program?

Tell me about your work experience

In the role of attractions, you have to speak to a large amount of people. Are you comfortable with this?

How do you tell a child he or she is not tall enough for a ride?

Have you ever been in emergency, and how did you handle it?

If today you were a character attendant, how would tell guests that Winnie the Pooh needs a break?

Can you swim? (This had to do with the Reaction Activities role because some of those are near water)

What role(s) do you feel you are most qualified for?

After my interview, I felt pretty confident in what happened, but after a long three weeks of waiting, I was getting a little discouraged. I deleted myself from all the Facebook groups because, even though I was very happy for them, I was tired of getting notifications that people had been accepted. On Wednesday, the 15th, Sara told me "Today is your day". After going a good portion of the day without getting an email, I decided to lay in bed (procrastinating, of course) and watch Netflix. After 4 episodes of "How I Met Your Mother" I just decided to check my email again; I am so thankful that I did not receive this email in class because I would prefer not to cry in a room of 300 business majors.

I am so excited to begin my journey in Orlando and start working for Mickey Mouse!
